Hedge plants come in various sizes and shapes with some plants that grow small and rounded with others growing tall and pointed. Besides size, other considerations should be made when choosing hedge plants, such as whether the plants will be planted in full sun or shade.
Fast Growing Hedges
The silky dogwood is a popular fast growing hedge that produces flower clusters in spring. In fall this hedge has white and blue fruit. The Cheyenne Privet is another fast growing hedge that produces dark green glossy foliage. These hedges have red leaves in spring and white blooms in May. Their foliage in autumn turns to a deep reddish purple. They’re also excellent hedges because of their hardiness.
Boxwood and Yew Hedges
Box hedges are popular hedges coming in several varieties. Although slower growing varieties such as Hicks Yew require patience waiting for the hedge to grow to a desired height, this hedge is easy to maintain.
Flowering Hedges
In addition to giving a garden security, flowering hedges add colorful bright blooms to a garden during spring and summer months.
